This is Dexter (now called Scott), a sweet 5-month-old puppy who has already faced more challenges than most. Dexter was hit by a car and left for dead on the dangerous streets of Greece, leaving his paw severely injured. Our volunteer Irene rushed him to the vet to treat his wound and prevent infection. She then brought him to her home, promising his mother everything would be alright.
Despite her best efforts, Dexter has lost sensitivity up to his elbow, and the vet advised amputation to prevent infection. We gave it a few additional days to see if the nerve damage could be reversible, but unfortunately Dexter’s wound became infected and we could not take the risk to let it spread.
Dexter was therefore amputated up to the shoulder. He is expected to adjust well to life on three legs, but we know this might make it harder for him to find his forever home. If you can find it in your heart to adopt this adorable and resilient boy, please reach out!
He is a Greek Shepherd and will likely grow into a big dog, around 30kg.
Dexter is an absolute sweetheart and deserves a loving family to give him the best life. He is very friendly with both dogs and people, and even cats! He is playful and already very strong! Greek Shepherds are loyal, brave and independent dogs, but also quite stubborn. He will need training.
Scott has found a family, but we have 22 other dogs looking for a home.
